ECMO Staffing FAQs: Careers, Training, and What to Expect

An ECMO specialist at IEC is a critical care expert responsible for managing life-sustaining ECMO circuits at the bedside. Specialists monitor and adjust the ECMO machine, collaborate with ICU teams, and provide expert-level support during the most critical moments of care. At IEC, specialists receive ongoing training, flexible scheduling, and the opportunity to grow within a nationally respected team.

To qualify, candidates must be a licensed RN, RT, or CCP with at least 1–2 years of ICU or operating room experience. While prior ECMO experience is valued, IEC provides comprehensive onboarding and ECMO-specific training—including simulation, didactics, and hands-on precepting—so clinicians can confidently step into the role.

IEC offers industry-leading benefits designed to reduce burnout and support long-term wellbeing. Full-time clinicians receive:

  • 3 months of protected time off per year

  • Flexible self-scheduling

  • Paid training, travel, and orientation

  • Competitive base salary plus bonus opportunities

  • Annual CME allowance and 401(k) with match
